Tonight is a blue moon. It feels like a red letter day – something to notice and remember, this second full moon in a month.

I can’t recall clocking the blue moon days before the last one – it was just an expression, wasn’t it?

Something people said.

“Once in a blue moon.”

Now I am noticing.

The last blue moon was the 31st December 2009.

A blue moon on new year’s eve – it only happens every two decades or so.

It was the day of my mother’s funeral, a day so beautiful, cold, crisp and clear.

The sun set golden on the river on the night of the last blue moon.

Sun Setting Over the Forth

Tonight’s blue moon is reminding me.
